S.purpurea conservation/clearance at Wareham, Dorset

S.purpurea conservation/clearance at Wareham, Dorset.

S. purpurea were introduced to Wareham Bog, Dorset some decades ago and have now spread widely across the bog where they are starting to out-compete native bog species. The bog’s

landowner was intending to put glyphosate on the lot but Tim Bailey managed to persuade them to let us remove all but plants in a small area and to deadhead any that are in flower. We started last year and hundreds have been removed but there are many more remaining.

We meet at 10am on the B3075 which runs northwards from Wareham towards Bere Regis at the point where electricity pylons cross the road at right angles. The nearest postcode is BH20 7NZ.

This is a bog and the ground can be very boggy so bring your wellies or alternatively trainers and shorts.
